Joe Nevolo founded Big Beat Music Studio in 1983, since then our goal at Big Beat Music is to help you reach your ultimate musical goals through the use of high tech equipment and innovative instructional techniques. Our curriculum provides an opportunity to participate in special practice incentive programs, musical games, awards and recitals. Big Beat Music helps students to develop their musical talents without limits in whatever direction they wish to go.
Joe has been an active musician and instructor for over 25 years. His education includes study and master classes with famous percussionists such as Louis Bellson (Duke Ellington) and Carmine Appice (Rod Stewart). Joe is currently a performer and instructor throughout the tri-state area. He has taught for DCI in New York City and written articles for Modern Drummer Magazine. He has endorsements from companies like Sabian Cymbals, and has performed on MTV.
Joe was a finalist in the auditions to replace Peter Criss in the band Kiss. Has been published many times in "Modern Drummer" magazine, "Creative Drummer Magazine", "East Coast Rocker", and others not to mention being featured by some of the same publications. Performed and recorded with guitar virtuoso Stephen Ross and guitar virtuoso Greg Howe with the group Howe II, which included a national tour and an MTV video on Headbangers Ball . Toured and performed with Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush (CBS) for several years Recorded with blues great Pat Travers on the cd entitled "Blues Tracks" on Blues International/Shrapnel labe. Performed with well known tri-state Theatrical Rock Band Phantoms Opera, which consisted of current members of BonJovi's band. He performed regularly with New Jersey's own late great Blues guitarist Bernie Brausewetter with the band "BB & The Stingers". Joe Recorded three albums with the band Shadow Gallery entitled (Tyranny, Legacy and Room V) which received worldwide acclaim Joe traveled to Latvia to assist the rock band "Riga" with their songs and stage show. He also provided drum clinics while he was there. His Big Beat Music Studio has gained worldwide recognition for teaching excellence not only on drums, but all instruments. He came in third place in the best unsigned drummer contest held in Clearwater, FL. in December of '94. Notable judges were Dave Weckl (Chick Corea), Rod Morgenstein (Winger and the Dixie Dregs), Marvin Smith (Sting), Rick Van Horn (head editor for Modern Drummer), and Jerry Ricci (head of the National Drummers Association). Joe has conducted drum clinics including one with Simon Phillips (drummer who has played with The Who, Toto, Pete Townsend, and Jeff Beck) and has taught at "The Long Island Drum Center" and " Drummers Collective (DCI)", in New York City. Joe's Unique style of teaching has been described as nothing less than remarkable. His perseverance towards new ways of teaching has earned him many loyal fans and students, as well as accolades from some of the music industry's top professionals. In the 25 years of Big Beat Music Studio's existence, our faculty has included many well-known musicians. These teachers have performed with bands like Styx, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Label Society with guitarist Zakk Wilde, Sheena Easton, and many others. Also, some of our current students include relatives of of Richie Sambora, Clive Davis, and Bruce Springsteen's crew.
