Jammin’ Blog by Rob Crowther March 2023

For this month's installment of The Big Beat Blog, I wanted to take the time to focus on my pride and joy here at Big Beat Studios School of Music, and that is the Snare Devils Percussion Ensemble.

Over the years I've had the opportunity to teach an extraordinary group of kids how to perform in a group setting much different than that of just playing on a drumset or even in a band setting. The Snare Devils have more of a drumline setting where students are challenged to not only perform in perfect unison, but find ways to come up with melodies through the use of bells, xylophone, or programmed electronic pads.

Students are encouraged to showcase their creativity, while also welcome to provide their own ideas and input. As the instructor of the drum ensemble, I must say I am absolutely blown away at how far these kids have come in just a few years time.

The Snare Devils have performed not only at Big Beat's Annual Showcase, but are often found performing at local venues, open mics, charity events, and even in front of thousands at last year's Spring Lake 5K. Stay tuned for more announcements regarding performance dates for the ensemble.

Right now we'd like to extend the invitation to any active Big Beat Drummer to come by on a Sunday evening to experience a Snare Drum rehearsal and see if it's a good fit for them. I personally promise you that you won't be disappointed.  Until then, always remember to.... Keep on Jammin!!
